AKUMA are machines created by the Millenium Earl. They are killing machines, meant to wipe out the entire human race. AKUMA are created by a single shred of despair or grief. When someone is lost, and another is grieving over the loss, that is their most vulnerable moment. When the Millenium Earl appears, he approches the sad stained person, and tells them that they can bring the dead one back to life. If they agree, an AKUMA's raw body appears before them. With a single call of the deceased one's name, their soul shoots into the AKUMA body. The Millenium Earl then orders the new AKUMA to kill the one who called the soul back. The AKUMA then kills the person, and steals their form. All humanity from that AKUMA's soul ceases to exit. The Soul is trapped and unable to control the body. Thus bringing to life, a killer machine. Allen Walker, and Exorcist of the Black Order, was cursed with the ability to see these trapped souls with his cursed left eye. He can see the suffering soul hover over the AKUMA. Unless an AKUMA is destroyed by an anti-akuma weapon (which saves the soul attached), and (for example in episode 11) it self-destructs, not only is the AKUMA destroyed, but the soul within is as well and cannot be saved. |
